Te Araroa (The Long Pathway). This is a
proposed hiking trail for the length of New Zealand which is hoped to be open by
late 2010. Note: Much of the route follows trails that already exist, or forestry
roads, and could be tramped now so check the website out, you may like to try
walking some of the trail while still in New Zealand.

Oamaru

Blue Penguin Colony which is situated in the former Oamaru harbour quarry. Once
worked to provide rock for the construction of the Oamaru harbour, the quarry
was turned over to the penguins in 1992, however the penguins have been present
in small numbers since the early 1980's.
